Sheriff’s Office to No Longer Participate in Medication Collect Events

In a letter, Cortland County Sheriff, Mark Helms said after a considerable amount of consideration, the Sheriff’s Office will no longer participate in Medication Collection Events, or Drug Take Back Events.

Helm’s says the Sheriff’s Office began involvement in the take back events annually starting in 2010. The Sheriff’s Office typically participated in the event which occurs on the last Saturday of the months of April and September.

Reasons why the Sheriff’s Office would no longer be participating in the drug take back events were not provided in the letter.

“I want to thank all the people who assisted us with the many past Drug Take Back Events.” Helms said.

Residents who need to dispose of unused or expired medication may still do so at the numerous kiosks located throughout the county including the Sheriff’s Office, Cortland Police Department, Homer Police Department, and University Police at SUNY Cortland.
