Sheriff’s Office: No Car Involved in Reported Car–Cyclist Crash; Cyclist Hospitalized

Just after 11 a.m. Monday, the Homer Fire Department, TLC Ambulance, and the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to Route 11 under the I81 overpass in the Town of Homer for a reported crash involving a cyclist and a vehicle.

When first responders arrived, they found a person and a bicycle down in the roadway, but no vehicle was located at the scene. Route 11 was closed between Health Camp Road and Copeland Avenue during the response.

A helicopter was initially requested to transport the male patient but was later canceled. He was instead taken by TLC Ambulance to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.

Route 11 remained closed while law enforcement conducted their investigation. The Sheriff’s Office says that, at this time, it is not believed a vehicle was involved in the crash, though the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (607) 753-3311.

Homer Police Department, New York State Police, and the Cortlandville Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
