Sheriff’s Office Investigating Fatal Two Vehicle Crash in Preble Friday Night

One person has died following a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 281 and Preble Road in Preble Friday night. Around 10:45 Friday night, emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene for a two vehicle crash with one person reportedly not responsive.

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office says an investigation into the crash determined a Ford SUV had failed to stop at the stop sign and was struck by a Ford pickup truck traveling on Route 281.

The driver of the SUV, identified as Wallace Grevelding, died as a result of the crash, the Sheriff’s Office says. The driver of the pick up truck, who was unidentified, was taken to Upstate Medical Center. Their condition is unknown at this time.

Route 281 was closed for several hours as a result of the crash. A helicopter was originally dispatched to the scene, but was later canceled. On scene were Preble, Homer, and Tully Fire Departments, TLC Ambulance, State Police, NYSDOT, Cortland County Coroners Office, and Ron’s Towing.

The Sheriff’s Office says the investigation remains ongoing at this time. Anyone who may have additional information is asked to contact Sergeant Brendan L’Hommedieu at (607) 758-5540.
