Sheriffs investigate infant death in town of Harford

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a three-month-old infant last week in the town of Harford.

Officers were dispatched around 12:15 pm on Thursday (June 2) to the Tri-County Pond located on Lacey Road, where a family had been camping and reported that their infant child had become unresponsive.

Family members on-scene called 911 and were helped over the phone with administering CPR to in an attempt to revive the child, but were unsuccessful.

A member of the Cortland County Coroner’s Office soon arrived at the scene, where the infant was pronounced deceased.

The child’s body was then brought to Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton where an autopsy was performed.

As a result of the investigation and preliminary autopsy results, authorities do not suspect foul play at this time.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact Sgt. Mark Starner of the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office- 607-758-5541.

Assisting with the investigation was the Cortland County Coroner’s Office, Tioga County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Department of Environmental Conversation Police, New York State Forest Rangers, Richford Fire Department, Dryden Ambulance and TLC Ambulance.
