Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to Walmart numerous times last week for shoplifting complaints. In total, 3 people were arrested and charged with Petit Larceny.
Just before 8:30 pm on December 20th, officers responded to a larceny complaint at Walmart. The investigation found 43 Timothy S. Peck of Syracuse, had stolen merchandise from the store. He was also trespassed from the property at the time. As officers were arresting Peck, they found him to be in possession of a controlled substance and another “dangerous substance”
He was charged with Burglary in the 3rd, a Felony, Petit Larceny, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th, and Possession of Dangerous Substance or Synthetic Drug. He was taken to the Sheriff’s Office where he was arraigned and remanded to Cortland County Jail on no bail.
The following day, officers again returned to Walmart for a larceny complaint around 9:20 in the evening. An investigation found 25 year old Austin M. Malchak of Marathon, had stolen merchandise from the store.
He was arrested and charged with Petit Larceny and taken to the Sheriff’s Office where he was processed and later released on appearance tickets. He is due in Cortlandville Town Court next month.
On December 22nd around 4:30pm, officers again were called to the store for a larceny complaint. An investigation found 26 year old Nicholas P. Downing of Cortland, had stolen merchandise from the store. He was arrested and charged with Petit Larceny. Downing was transported to the Sheriff’s Office for processing and later released on an appearance ticket.
Downing is due in Cortlandville Town Court next month.
