Sheriff Arrest Two in Separate Incidents of Parked Vehicles on State Routes – Both Found Drunk


Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office have made several arrests during their high visibility campaign this past weekend. The high visibility campaign conducted was one of many the Sheriff’s Office does during either holidays or major events, such as the big game last night.

Just after 12:30 in the morning on Friday, February 9th, a traffic stop was conducted for a vehicle that was already pulled over on the shoulder of Route 13 in Cortlandville. An investigation by officers found the operator of the parked vehicle, 35 year old Will D. Wyant of Cortlandville, was driving drunk.

Officers arrested and charged Wyant with DWI, a Misdemeanor, No Stopping/Standing on Highway, Refusal of Breath Test, all traffic infractions. He was taken to Sheriff’s Office for processing and was later arraigned by the Centralized Arraignment Process where he was then released on his own recognizance. Wyant is due in Cortlandville Town Court later this month.

On Saturday, February 10th around 4:30 am, a field investigation was conducted by officers from the Sheriff’s Office for another vehicle parked on State Route 11 in Cortlandville. The investigation also found the operator of the vehicle, 21 year old Arie J. Serrant of Ithaca, was driving drunk.

Serrant was charged with DWI, a Misdemeanor, Refusal to take breath test, Consumption/Alcohol in motor vehicle, and no stopping/standing/parking on highway, all violations. He was arrested and later released on his own recognizance. Serrant is due in Cortlandville Town Court later this month.
