Right around midnight on January 19th, officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a harassment complaint at 2795 Maricle Road in the Town of Freetown. An investigation found one of the suspects had communicated with a victim located at the residence via phone. The Sheriff’s Office says the suspect made verbal threats to the victim, which also violated an active order of protection.

The suspect was identified as 25 year old Michael R. Maricle of Freetown. He was located by officers in the City of Cortland just a short time later and was arrested. He was charged with Criminal Contempt in the 1st, a Felony, and Aggravated Harassment in the 2nd, a Misdemeanor.

The investigation also found 26 year old Nelson A. Maricle of Freetown at the residence, which violated an active order of protection. Nelson was also arrested by officers and charged with Criminal Contempt in the 2nd, a Misdemeanor.

Both men were transported to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office and arraigned the following day through the Centralized Arraignment Process. Nelson was released on his own recognizance while Michael was remanded to Cortland County Jail with no bail. Both are due in Freetown Town Court later this week.
