This past Monday (May 23) the Cortland County Sheriff’s department was called to a residence on Tim Hill Road in the Town of Marathon for a reported domestic disturbance incident.
After interviewing the victim the officers were able to determine the incident occurred on Spring Street in the Village of McGraw. The officers also learned that 28 year old Matthew Cranston had strangled, then struck the victim multiple times while several children were at the residence.
Officers located Cranston the next day and arrested him without incident. He was charged with Strangulation 2nd degree, aggravated family offense (both felonies), and assault in the 3rd degree (a misdemeanor) and multiple counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
He was remanded to Cortland County Jail on $2,000 cash bail or $4,000 bail bond.
