The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office say they responded to Lowe’s in Cortlandville just before 8 in the evening on Sunday May 5th for a reported larceny that had taken place at the store. An investigation by an officer determined 42 year old Casey C. Burke of Homer had stolen merchandise from the store and fled the scene prior to officers arrival.

The Sheriff’s Office says later in the evening, officers responded to a found property complaint at a neighboring business. That’s when the Sheriff’s Office says Burke provided a false name and date of birth to avoid the larceny charges stemming from Lowe’s and his current warrant for arrest.

An arrest warrant was then issued for Burke’s arrest after the false information provided to officers.

On Wednesday, May 8th around 4:45pm, Burke was located at the Byrne Dairy in Homer by officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office. He was taken into custody for his active warrants. He was transported to the Cortland County Jail and held on no bail pending his court appearances in Cortland City Court at a later date.

Burke is facing charges of Promoting Prison Contraband in the 1st, a Felony, Criminal Impersonation in the 2nd, and Petit Larceny, both Misdemeanors.
