Sheriff Arrest Homeless Man After Shoplifting Complaint at Harbor Freight – Found in Possession of Controlled Substance


On Tuesday, April 30th, officers with the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to Harbor Freight in Cortlandville around 5:45 in the evening for a larceny complaint. An investigation by officers found 41 year old Daniel L. Ackermann, who is listed as homeless, had stolen merchandise from the store before he then left.

Officers were able to locate Ackermann and took him into custody. As he was being taken into custody, officers found him to be in possession of a controlled substance that was not contained in its original container.

Ackermann was charged with Petit Larceny, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th, and Possession of a Controlled Substance by Ultimate Users Original Container, all Misdemeanors.

He was taken to the Sheriff’s Office where he was processed and released on an appearance ticket. Ackermann is due back in Cortlandville Town Court later this month.
