Several Arrested For Driving While Intoxicated/Impaired Over Weekend

Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office made several arrests over the weekend for those Driving While Intoxicated or Impaired.


Right before 11 pm on Friday, March 2nd, a traffic stop was done on McLean Road in the Town of Cortlandville. An investigation by officers during the stop found the driver, 53 year old Kip J. Hoy of Cortland, was driving while his ability was impaired by drugs. Officers also found drugs in Hoys possession.

He was arrested and charged with Driving While Impaired by Drugs, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th, both Misdemeanors, and traffic violations. He was taken to the Sheriff’s Office where he was processed and arraigned through the Centralized Arraignment Process and later released on his own recognizance.


Around 12:30 in the morning on Saturday, March 2nd, a traffic stop was conducted by officers in the Town of Cortlandville. An investigation into the stop found the driver, 32 year old Nickolas D. Santamarina of Cortland, was driving drunk.

Santamarina was arrested and charged with DWI, Driving with .08 of blood alcohol content, both Misdemeanors, and Speed in Zone. He was taken to the Sheriff’s Office where he was processed and later released on an appearance ticket. He is due in Cortlandville Town Court later this month.


About two hours later officers from the Sheriff’s Office located a disabled vehicle that was in the roadway on Clinton Ave. in the City of Cortland. Further investigation determined the vehicle was involved in a single vehicle crash nearby.

The driver of the vehicle, 25 year old Alana M. Kroner of Cortland, was driving drunk. She was arrested and charged with DWI, Driving While Intoxicated .08% or greater, both Misdemeanors, and Failed to Use Designated Lane, a Violation.

She was taken to the Sheriff’s Office where she was processed and later released on appearance tickets. Kroner is due in Cortland City Court later this month.


Just after 1:30 in the morning on Sunday, March 3rd, officers pulled over a vehicle on Route 281 in Cortlandville for a traffic violation. During the investigation it was determined the driver, 19 year old Samuel R. Abbey of Dryden, was driving drunk.

Abbey was arrested and charged with DWI, Driving with .08 or more of Blood alcohol content, both Misdemeanors, and traffic violations. He was taken to the Sheriff’s Office where he was processed and later released on his own recognizance. Abbey is due in Cortlandville Town Court later this month.
