Excellus BlueCross BlueShield today announced the winners of its 2020 Community Health Awards.
Nine CNY nonprofits were selected from a pool of more than 40 applicants to receive up to $4k to help fund health and wellness programs in the region.
One of the winners is the Cortland-based Seven Valleys Health Coalition, set to use the funds to continue the popular “Get Cortland Cooking Healthy” program.
That’s a series of five free classes open to the public teaching residents how to prepare healthy, tasty and easy recipes that incorporate produce.
“The company’s Community Health Awards demonstrate a corporate commitment to supporting local organizations that share our mission as a nonprofit health plan,” said Jim Reed, regional president, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield. “These awards given out earlier this year complement our existing grants and sponsorships with agencies that work to enhance quality of life, including health status, in upstate New York.”
Winning organizations are selected based on the proposed program’s scope of need, goals, and the number of people expected to benefit from it.
