Yesterday, The US Supreme Court struck down a New York State law on regulations of concealed carry. The law of which has been in place for over 100 years.
The state law required gun owners to be able to prove a “special need” or a “proper cause” to be able to carry a concealed gun in public for self defense.
According to New York State law, wanting to protect yourself without demonstrating a proper cause wasn’t enough.
New York US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand released a statement regarding the Supreme Court’s decision.
“Today’s Supreme Court ruling, which guts state concealed carry permitting laws, is not just irresponsible, it is downright dangerous. Our nation is in the middle of a gun violence epidemic and instead of working to protect our communities, this court has made it even easier for potentially dangerous people to carry concealed handguns in public spaces.” Gillibrand stated.
