State Senator James Seward (R-51) is awake and recovering after being in a medically induced coma for several days due to complications from COVID-19.
His wife Cindy, who’s also in quarantine with the virus, confirmed Saturday evening that her husband was taken off a ventilator at Albany Medical Center after being on the device since early Thursday morning.
She made both announcements in two separate Facebook posts (see below).
Seward and his wife tested positive last month and the state senator faces an even tougher battle ahead, as he continues to fight the virus alongside a bladder cancer diagnosis that’s been on-and-off since 2016 and led to his decision to retire at the end of his current 17th term in office.
Pending release from the hospital, Seward will then join Cindy who’s already at home in quarantine after being tested at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.
