Sempronius Man Arrested for DWI After Driving 80 MPH in 55 Zone – Driving Nearly Three Times Legal Limit

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office says 48 year old Clifton A. Payne of Sempronius was arrested around 9:40 in the evening back on October 8th following a traffic stop. Around 9:30 that evening, a deputy with the Sheriff’s Office was patrolling the area of Poverty Lane and Route 41A in Summerhill when they saw a vehicle traveling at 80mph in a posted 55mph zone.

A traffic stop was conducted for the speeding vehicle as a result. The Sheriff’s Office says Payne was the only person in the vehicle. During the traffic stop, Payne was determined to be driving while he was intoxicated.

Payne was arrested and charged with Aggravated DWI, a misdemeanor, along with other traffic infractions. He was taken into custody and transported to the Public Safety Building for processing.

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office says while at the safety building, Payne’s B.A.C. was reported to be .23%, nearly three times the legal limit. He was later released on uniformed traffic tickets. Payne is due in Summerhill Town Court later this month.
