Schumer – Micron To Receive $6.1 Billion in Preliminary CHIPS Funding

New York State Senator, Chuck Schumer has announced that Micron has reached a $6.1 billion dollar preliminary memorandum of terms funding agreement with the US Department of Commerce under the CHIPS & Science Law for Microns Clay, NY and in Idaho.

“This monumental and historic federal investment will power and propel Micron to bring its transformative $100+ billion mega-fab project over 20+ years in Central New York to life, creating an estimated 50,000 jobs, and reinventing the region and Upstate New York’s economy into the heart of America’s manufacturing resurgence and an epicenter of the global semiconductor industry.”

Said Senator Schumer.

Growth in the Central New York Region is expected to increase significantly. Cortland County Business Development Corporation and Industrial Development Agency Executive Director Brendan O’Bryan told X101 News the Central New York region can expect to see a transformation, including Cortland County.

“Today’s announcement of Micron receiving $6.1 billion in CHIPS funding represents a significant development to solidify this project in Clay. This initiative is poised to generate a substantial economic impact, catalyzing job creation, revitalizing the supply chain sector, and stimulating demand for housing.”

Says Brendan O’Bryan.

The funding Micron received is part of a $100 Billion plus public and private investment over the next two decades by the company. Schumer says it is the largest private investment in the state’s history. Micron made the official announcement back in October of 2022.

“The Central New York region will undergo a substantial transformative phase. While situated in Clay, the reverberations of Micron’s presence extend to neighboring areas, including Cortland County, signaling an era of innovation and economic growth.” O’Bryan continued.

The company will build a massive complex of multiple chip plants over the course of the next 20 years at the White Pine Commerce Park in the Town of Clay.

“To all those who have had their doubts, believe it, Micron is here, Micron is real. And now with billions in federal investment from my CHIPS & Science Law, we are taking the next steps to get shovels in the ground to transform the Syracuse region and all of Upstate into a global hub for the chips that will power America’s future,” said Senator Schumer.
