US Senator Chuck Schumer’s announced the Dairy Margin Coverage Program Central New York Farmers rely on is in limbo.
The Program was first enacted in the 2018 Farm Bill and offers monthly price support payments from the feds to dairy farmers. It’s currently set to expire in September and if it were allowed to do so that would mean less support for farmers. It would also lead to supply chain disruptions as well as an increase in the price of milk.
Schumer is now leading the push to protect the program as Congress begins negotiations over this year’s Farm Bill.
