Schumer Calls for Unauthorized E-Cig Detention Heeded by FDA, US Customs

The FDA has instructed US Customs and Border Protection to reject imports of some popular, unauthorized, disposable e-cigarettes such as Elf Bar, Esco Bar and Eon Smoke.

This comes following calls from US Senator Chuck Schumer to detain these unauthorized disposable e-cigarettes. Schumer called the FDA’s decision a major step to protect kids and teens in Upstate New York who are often targeted by companies behind these products. Schumer specifically noted that e-cigs sold under brand names Elf Bar, Esco Bar and Eon Smoke don’t have marketing authorizations and are therefore illegal.

The FDA has now placed these items on the “Red List”, which means that Customs can detain shipments without inspecting them. The FDA’s alert identified more than 20 companies in South Korea, China and the US that have been illegally manufacturing or shipping unauthorized vapes.
