The Ithaca Police Department is alerting the public of an ongoing scam going on to Ithaca residents after a report was brought to the attention of the police department. The report was of a scam existing where scammers have been utilizing the Ithaca Police Department’s phone number as an effort to have the potential victim they’re speaking with a police officer.
The scammer will then demand the victim must send them money or face arrest and jail time. Ithaca Police says they will never contact anyone and demand money from them under a threat of arrest. IPD also states if something seems suspicious, to hang up and contact the police department at the contact information listed below to verify and report the incident to officials.
