Scam Alert Issued for Tompkins County Residents

The New York State Police is warning residents of Tompkins County of a reported scam in the county of someone contacting residents and identifying as a State Trooper and informing them that they are a victim of a scam.

The scammer requests personal information from the victim and the phone number the scammer is calling from is spoofed and shows up as the number to the Tompkins County 9-1-1 Center. State Police say it is not anyone from law enforcement.

State Police remind residents not to provide personal information over the phone and to hang up and call the Tompkins County 9-1-1 Center at 607-347-4440 to verify if a trooper or another member of law enforcement is trying to contact you.
