Sales Tax Collections Up 4.3% For Month of November For County

New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says overall local sales tax collections are up 3% for the month of November with local collections totaling $1.86 billion dollars, a $53 million dollar increase.

“Local sales tax growth in November was a bit stronger compared to the 1.9% year-to-date increase,” DiNapoli said. “New York City’s collections continue to drive statewide growth, accounting for a majority of the overall increase. Still, monthly collections are subject to volatility, and local officials should take this into consideration when budgeting for future sales tax revenue.”

The November results were even better for Cortland County though. County sales tax collections for the month of November were $3.07 million dollars, a 4.3% increase when compared to November 2023. Overall year to date collections are up in the county by 2.5% at $36.49 million.

Neighboring Tompkins County saw another decrease in sales tax collections. For November collections were down 2.9%, totaling $5.29 million. In November 2023, Tompkins County had $5.45 million in collections. Year-to-date, collections are down 1.1%.
