The Cortland County Legislature Thursday night voted on a symbolic resolution to send to Washington to protest threatened cuts to federal Title X family planning funding for the Jacobus Center.
During the open comment portion of the meeting, Vivian Bosch of Cortlandville and Dr. Sara Young of Virgil were two speakers who urged county legislators to vote yes.
Other legislators objected, but not enough. The resolution did pass, the second of its kind in two months.
Legislators sent another message – this one to Albany asking to continue an extra one-percent of sales tax in Cortland County, or else state permission could end at the end of November.
Among other actions:
- The tipping fee at the county landfill was raised from $60-to-65.
- City of Cortland Hazardous Materials team was hired to assist with incidents in the county under a new two-year agreement
- A potential cost of $48 million for a new public safety complex was discussed
