Safe Boating Course to be Offered in September by Sheriff’s Office

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office will offer a New York State Safe Boating Course this September. The course will take place at the Cortlandville Fire Station at 999 Route 13 beginning at 8am on September 14th.

The Sheriff’s Office says with changes in the state’s boating laws, all operators of motorized vessels will need a boating safety certificate by January 1st, 2025. This requirement applies to personal watercraft and is regardless of age. Anyone who takes the course must be 10 years of age by September 14th in time for the course.

Space is limited for the course and pre-registration is required. You can register by clicking the link HERE. Those with questions on the upcoming safety course may contact Sergeant Paul Stillman at 607-758-5531.

This course is sponsored by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, and is being offered locally by the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office. No lunch will be provided, although there will be a lunch break given.
