Former Assemblyman Democrat Sam Roberts wants to run in the 22nd Congressional District race. He announced his candidacy on Saturday during a campaign stop at the Clocktower in Cortland.

Roberts earned his B.A. from Empire State College and has been a tool and die maker with GM for 30 years. “I’m a blue collar guy,” said Roberts, in remarks provided by Cortland Democrats. “The working class – we have to make sure that we take care of and keep a strong middle class, again, for our families. And that’s why I’m running. So, I just hope that you guys will support me, and we make a difference. Together we make a difference.”
Roberts represented the 128th Assembly District from 2013-2015, the 119th Assembly District from 2011-2013, and was an Onondaga County Legislator from 1990-1999.
Roberts pledges to focus on jobs, education, public safety, healthcare and the environment.
