A Cortland man was arrested Friday (July 17) following a reported assault and armed robbery that occurred two days prior on Clinton Avenue in the city.
Police say a 40-year-old male victim was assaulted and threatened at knife-point by 37-year-old Chenor Pena, of Owego Street. The victim said he did know Pena from past encounters.
According to investigators, Pena first approached the man asking for a cigarette then followed him home and began attacking him once they arrived there.
Pena eventually pulled a knife and threatened the man, who had several children home at the time of the incident.
In order to calm him, the victim agreed to go to a nearby ATM where he withdrew and gave $40 to Pena in order to get him to leave.
City officers located Pena just past 7:00 Friday night riding a stolen bicycle on Charles Street in the City.
He taken into custody and charged with:
- Robbery 1st (F)
- Menacing 2nd (M)
- Criminal Possession of a weapon 3rd (F)
- Harassment 2nd (V)
- Criminal possession of stolen property 5th (M) (bicycle).
The victim suffered only minor injuries.
