Rite Aids Future Looks Grim – Fate of Cortland Store Uncertain

Rite Aid has once again filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection and plans to close dozens of stores across the country, including in New York State. As of Tuesday, the Cortland Rite Aid location at 1067 Route 222 in Cortland has yet to be named as one of the many stores to close.

However, since May 6th, Rite Aid has announced their Rite Aid Rewards points will no longer be issued for qualifying purchases with all accrued points and the store’s BonusCash expiring per the standard terms. Rite Aid Gift Cards, returns or exchanges will also no longer be accepted starting on June 5th.

“For more than 60 years, Rite Aid has been a proud provider of pharmacy services and products to our loyal customers. While we have continued to face financial challenges, intensified by the rapidly evolving retail and healthcare landscapes in which we operate, we are encouraged by meaningful interest from a number of potential national and regional strategic acquirors. As we move forward, our key priorities are ensuring uninterrupted pharmacy services for our customers and preserving jobs for as many associates as possible.” Matt Schroeder, Chief Executive Officer of Rite Aid, said in a statement.

The company has recently stepped up their announcements of additional store closings with the list itself increasing daily. X101 News has reached out to Rite Aid for comment regarding the status of the Cortland store, but have yet to hear back.
