Ringo Starr’s L.A. Album Sessions Roll On With Sheila E.

Music News

Ringo Starr posted a photo of himself with Shelia E. on his Facebook page. The former Prince protege was a member of Ringo’s All Starr Band, handling drum duties during the in 2001, 2003, and 2006 tours. She’s the latest high profile artist to contribute to Ringo’s upcoming album due out later this year, which so far also features contributions from Paul McCartney, Joe Walsh, Peter Frampton, the Eagles’ Timothy B. Schmit, the Heartbreakers’ Benmont Tench, longtime Eric Clapton bassist Nathan East, Mr. Mister’s Richard Page, and Brian Wilson’s Smile album collaborator, Van Dyke Parks. No release date has been announced for the still untitled set.

We told Ringo that the thing that we liked best about his three prior self-produced albums, 2010’s Y Not, Ringo 2012, and 2015’s Postcards From Paradise was that it’s pretty much as stripped down as he’s ever allowed himself to be in the studio: “It is stripped down. I like space. Y’know, it’s like my drumming; there’s lots of space. For me, it’s better that you don’t do a fill than really do one — it’s as important that you leave air on the track. And that’s what I tend to do, with the records I produce.”
