Although Rick Springfield is known almost as much for his acting as his music, he admitted to us that when you work with Meryl Streep and director Jonathan Demme, you dig deep for a great performance. Springfield, who heads out on tour later this month, is receiving great notices for his role as “Greg” in Ricki And The Flash, where he plays the bandmate and love interest to Streep’s “Ricki,” who reconnects with her fairly after choosing her career over them years ago.
Rick Springfield told us that he focused on the dramatic parts of the role far more intently than he did the musical: “You gotta bring your ‘A-game’ and I knew that and work, y’know, a little hard on the part. And it did call for an actor, I mean, y’know, the guy is a musician — but it’s really about their relationship, is what their part of the story is and so they. . . that needed to be sold, too. And, y’know, working with the two of them — they’re top of the food chain, y’know?.”
He performs at the New York State Fair’s Chevy Court on August 27th at 8pm.
