Residents Reminded – You Cannot Push Snow Onto Street

Cortlandville Town Councilperson, David Donlick, gave a friendly reminder for residents & businesses during Wednesday’s Town Board meeting that residents cannot push snow onto the street. With the recent winter weather and accumulations of snow, Donlick says residents who do push snow onto the streets are not only causing a safety hazard, but then force snowplows to re-plow streets they’ve recently done.

“People do it everyday. It’s a safety hazard.” Town Councilperson Donlick said.

In New York, under the Vehicle and Traffic Law Section 1219, it is illegal to push snow onto the street. According to the state law, pushing snow onto public roadways creates a hazard for drivers, can cause accidents, and could damage snowplows. Those who violate the law are subject to fines or further punishment.
