Residents Encouraged to Contribute to Upcoming Mosaic Installation in Downtown Cortland
Members of the Cortland Community have an opportunity to be involved in Downtown Cortland’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative with the planned installation of a new community mosaic. Ashe Martin, owner of Forged from Ashe Studios, says residents are being invited to contribute both materials and ideas for the mosaic.
Martin, who is also the co-owner of Crown City Curiosities and the founder of the Crown City Mural Fest says people in the community are encouraged to bring small baubles, trinkets, charms, or keepsakes to be incorporated into the finished mosaic artwork. Each piece provided will be part of a permanent public installation that will celebrate Cortland’s creativity, history, and collective spirit.
Two dates have been set for drop-off and information on the planned project. Those dates are October 23rd from 10am to 2pm at A Lovin Cup on Tompkins Street and November 13th from noon to 4pm at Experience Cortland on Main Street.
“Participants are encouraged to bring small items such as buttons, beads, stones, tokens, salt and pepper shakers, figurines or other meaningful trinkets (Limit to 5 per person). These objects will be thoughtfully integrated into the mosaic, turning personal mementos into a shared symbol of Cortland’s community pride.”
Martin said in a release.
Information during the two dates will allow community members to learn more about the DRI mosaic project and its location in Downtown Cortland, see a scale model of the planned installation, meet local mosaic artist Ashe Martin, and able to ask questions and share input about the project’s design and its impact on the community.
