Friday, June 30th, Ithaca Police responded to a residence on Washington Street in the City of Ithaca for a reported burglary in progress.
As Ithaca Police arrived, they learned the resident of the address had chased the female suspect, who is unknown to the resident, out of the residence and detained her around the corner from the residence.
Officers took custody and arrested 40 year old Kaitlin Smith of Ithaca. Police further learned the resident was returning home when they witnessed Smith inside the residence stealing and trashing the house.
Smith was charged with Burglary in the 2nd, a Felony. She was arraigned in Ithaca City Court and remanded to Tompkins County Jail.
