Republican Candidates For Town of Cortlandville Announced

Tuesday afternoon, at CNY Farm Supply in the Town of Cortlandville, the Republican candidates for this year’s November elections were announced. Election Day is November 4th. Up for election this year are Cortlandville Town Supervisor, two Town Councilpersons, Town Clerk, Highway Superintendent, and Town Justice. The candidate announcements were organized by the Town of Cortlandville Republican Committee.

CNY Farm Supply, a locally owned and operated family business in the Town of Cortlandville, hosted the Cortlandville Republican Committee for their announcement. According to the Republican Committee, the business boasts 36 employees on 10 acres on Route 11. They continued on to add the town values CNY Farm Supply’s long-time commitment for the community and the contribution the business makes for the local economy. The business is now run by Tim and Eric Law.

Naming the candidates on the Republican ballot for the Town of Cortlandville this election in November was Budd Rigg of the Cortlandville Republican Committee. Rigg spoke on what the committee looked for when selecting candidates.

“It’s exciting to announce this years falls slate for the candidates for the Town of Cortlandville. The Republican Committee did some screening, interviews, and we focused on ethics, professionalism, dedication, and an unmatched waver to work for the township, Cortlandville. We think we went above and beyond with the candidates we found, not that we did it, but who we found and what they represent and what they will bring to the table this fall.” Rigg said before announcing the candidates.

For Town Supervisor, current incumbent Greg Leach was named as the Republican candidate for the Town of Cortlandville. Leach took the office of Supervisor after the resignation of Williams last summer. Under Leach’s leadership, the town has witnessed growth in business, work at Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex, and more.

“It has been a privilege to serve the Town of Cortlandville over the past year. We’ve faced challenges together – from managing growth responsibly, to investing in infrastructure, supporting our small businesses, and protecting the quality of life that Cortlandville residents enjoy. It’s taken steady hands, open ears, and honest hearts to get where we are. I’m proud of the progress we’ve made – because it was built with transparency, accountability, and community at its core. Thank you to the Town Board and the employees at the Town Hall for working as a team.” Leach Said.

Next, Rigg announced the two Councilperson candidates. Incumbent Sunday Earle and Don Niver. Councilperson Earle was appointed to fulfill a vacancy in the Town Board when Leach moved to the Supervisor position. Niver will look to fill in Jeff Guidos seat, who is not seeking reelection. He is a lifelong resident of the Town of Cortlandville and is recently retired after working with Suit-Kote for 40 years.

For Town of Cortlandville Clerk and Tax Collector, Incumbent Kristin Rocco-Petrella looks for a fourth term as Town Clerk and Tax Collector; originally taking office in 2018. Town of Cortlandville Highway Superintendent, Larry Drach, is seeking a 2nd term as superintendent for the town.

Lastly, for Town Justice, Dustin Smith has been selected by the committee. Mr. Smith is the owner and operator of Windswept Tree Services. He added after the announcement of his candidacy there are two things that make a community thrive, a strong family and law enforcement saying if elected as Town Justice, he can help contribute to this.

The Cortland County Democratic Committee plans to hold a caucus for the town offices up for election this November on July 19th at the Cortlandville Town Hall at 10am.
