Report: Dry Conditions Starting To Impact Crops In Areas

A report from the USDA earlier this week regarding crop conditions, says temperatures from last week ranged 2 degrees below to 5 degrees above normal.

Some areas in New York were slightly cooler and received more rain; however 8 counties were reported to have moderate drought conditions, and a larger portion of the state was abnormally dry.

The USDA says such conditions were starting to negatively impact some crops such as corn and soybean. Hay crops have been lower than expected.

The USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service has announced it’s distributing the County Agricultural Production Survey. (NASS) The survey, which will collect data on total acres planted and harvested, as well as total yield and production of small grains down to the county level. The data will then help determine accurate rates for loans, disaster payments, crop insurance price elections and more.
