Rep. Molinaro’s Office Accepting Entries From HS Students for Annual Artistic Discovery Congressional Art Competition


U.S. Congressman Marc Molinaro (NY-19) has announced his office is now accepting entries from high school students within the 19th Congressional District for the annual Artistic Discovery Congressional Art Competition.

The competition is nationwide and is sponsored by Members of the House of Representatives. Molinaro’s Office said in a release the competition will give young artists the opportunity to showcase their talent. Winning pieces in the competition will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

“This is a great way for Upstate New York students to showcase their artistic talent! I’m excited to see the artwork that will be turned in by high schoolers across New York’s 19th Congressional District. I encourage all students to participate and show off their work for a chance to have it displayed in the United States Capitol and represent Upstate New York!” Molinaro said.

Molinaro’s Office also says there are guidelines to follow when planning to submit an entry to the competition. Those guidelines include:

  • Artwork may be up to 26 inches wide by 26 inches tall and by 4 inches thick.
  • Art must be two dimensional, be original in concept, design, and execution.
  • Must not weigh more than 15 pounds
  • Cannot violate US Copyright laws
  • Accepted artwork includes:
  • Paintings (oil, acrylics, and watercolor)
  • Drawings (pastels, colored pencils, pencil, charcoal, ink, and markers)
  • Collage (must be two dimensional)
  • Prints (lithographs, silkscreens, and block prints)
  • Mixed Media
  • Computer Generated Art
  • Photography

In addition to the guidelines, all artwork must be submitted with a completed copy of the competition release form found HERE. Submitted work must be given to Molinaro’s Leeds or Binghamton District Office by Wednesday, April 17th.
