Reminder – DMV to Temporarily Close at Noon Friday For Major Updates

Beginning at noon this Friday, February 13, all Department of Motor Vehicle locations will temporarily close in order to allow a major software upgrade to take effect. During this closure, all DMV operations, including their online transactions and phone system will cease. The closure will continue through February 18.

The Cortland DMV will reopen at 8:30am on February 19th by appointment only. On Monday, February 23rd, the Cortland County DMV will return to regular business hours of 8:30am to 4:15pm. Walk-ins are welcome and those who prefer to make an appointment may do so on Thursdays and Fridays.

The updating of the aging software at the DMV has been in discussion in Albany for years. So far, significant work has gone into developing the software at the state level. All county DMV offices rely on the state for equipment and software.
