Back on Friday, June 14th, recognitions were given to Homer Police Officer Brewster and Cortland County Sheriff Officer Aylesworth and Sergeant L’Hommedieu for their actions during an incident that took place on August 6th last year.

Back on August 6th, police were involved in a vehicle pursuit where the vehicle then went off the roadway and struck into a gas meter of a residential building in the Village of Homer. Homer Police said in a release both Officer Brewster and Officer Aylesworth were able to take the suspect into custody and removed him from the area.

Sergeant L’Hommedieu was off duty at the time of the incident, but still responded to assist officers. He entered the residence, found the homeowner, and assisted her to safety and away from the open gas meter.

Homer Firefighter, Phil Hess was able to turn off the open gas line, preventing a possible explosion.

Both Officer Brewster and Officer Aylesworth were given the Gallantry Star Award, and Sergeant L’Hommediue received the Life Saving Award. For firefighter Phil Hess, he was named the Homer Fire Departments Firefighter of the Year for his actions during the incident.
