Rebuilding of Main Street Cortland to Begin Next Week

Beginning on Monday, March 27th, construction will commence on the two-year project to rebuild Main Street in the City of Cortland, eventually turning the street into a two-way street once again.

Construction crews from CCI Companies will begin construction by removing the trees along Main Street, and then replacing and rehabilitating underground water and sewer utilities. Work will begin on the West side of Main Street between West Court Street and Tompkins Street. Parking in the area is expected to be restricted and traffic will be reduced to at least one lane.

The Main Street work is part of the City of Cortland’s DRI grant, which was awarded back in 2017. City of Cortland Mayor Scott Steve and his team have been meeting with CCI representatives, and other public utility representatives regularly to discuss the overview of the project and work to minimize the impact on businesses and visitors to Downtown Cortland.

“We know there will be some short-term inconveniences associated with this work, but long term, the City will benefit from a renewed downtown.” Scott Steve said in a press release.

The latest information on the Downtown work may be found at CrownCityRising.com, a website that was created in partnership with the Cortland County Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Cortland County Business Development Corporation.
