Quick Actions Stop Trailer Hauling Fireworks From Setting Off on I81 in Tully
Just before 4 in the afternoon Sunday, June 22nd, Tully Fire was dispatched to I81 North for multiple calls coming in of a U-Haul trailer fire on the shoulder of the highway. The fire was located in the wheel well of the trailer and not inside the trailer itself. Tully Fire responded to the scene and learned the contents of the U-Haul trailer were fireworks.
In a release, Tully Fire says as their Car 3 arrived on scene, an off-duty firefighter from Delaware stopped on the highway and had already used two fire extinguishers to put out most of the fire. The operator of the U-Haul trailer was a licensed professional, Tully Fire added. With the quick actions of the off-duty firefighter, the fire did not spread into the trailer with the fireworks.
Tully firefighters extinguished the remaining fire. Tully Ambulance was also on scene to evaluate the driver who had minor burns to their fingers. State Police also assisted on scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
