Tonight at 6pm, there will be another public hearing regarding the future of the former Parker Elementary School in the City of Cortland before the Common Council meeting at City Hall.

During the last Common Council meeting, a public hearing was held regarding the future of the site. Overall, the public opinion for the last public hearing was mainly concerned with the proposed project by the Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Services (INHS).

INHS was the only organization to officially bring in a proposal for new life to the former school with an affordable housing project. The project would bring a complete renovation of the building and feature a mix of studio, 1-bedroom, and 2-bedroom apartments with a total number of units ranging from 44 to 51, with 15% set aside for people with intellectual, or developmental disabilities with services provided by Racker.

Traffic volume, crime and safety, flooding concerns, and the need for childcare in the City of Cortland were the most vocal concerns during the last public hearing.

For those who cannot attend tonight’s public hearing at City Hall in Cortland at 6pm, written comments may be submitted to the City Clerk by 3pm today either in person or via email at cityclerk@Cortland.org.

The public hearing will also be available to watch via Zoom.
