Public Hearing Tonight on 3-Way Stop Sign on Hooker Ave. in Homer

Update: 9/24/2024 4:12pm: The Village of Homer has announced the public hearing regarding the proposed 3-way stop has been pulled from tonight’s meeting. The Board of Trustees is expected to discuss the change during tonight’s meeting.

Tonight, September 24th, at 6pm at the Homer Town Hall will be the public hearing regarding a proposed 3-way stop on Hooker Ave. and Sunset Drive in the Village of Homer. The public hearing will take place prior to the Board of Trustees meeting.

The Village of Homer has been looking into installing a 3-way stop sign at the intersection since Spring 2023. The village also sent a questionnaire to residents, receiving 25 responses; 16 in favor and 9 against.

Reasoning for a 3-way stop on the street is primarily for safety reasons. The area of Hooker Ave. does not have a sidewalk and pedestrians walking alongside the street. Some residents have voiced their concerns about speeding on Hooker Ave. The street has a posted 30mph limit. The stop sign would slow down people driving on Hooker Ave.
