Public Hearing Date Set For Restore NY Application – Former Roundhouse Mill Building Looks to be Demolished

A long vacant building located in the City of Cortland may have new life coming towards the property. The former Roundhouse Mill at 41 Elm Street in Cortland is looking to receive Restore NY Funding for potential redevelopment of the property. Funding would assist in the demolition of the buildings on the property. During last night’s City of Cortland Common Council meeting, the council voted to set a public hearing date regarding submitting a Restore NY application.

Restore NY requires a public hearing regarding a proposed application for funding. Restore NY provides matching funding for demolition, reconstruction, and/or renovations to properties. The Common Council voted unanimously to hold the public hearing regarding the application on Tuesday, December 17th at 6pm at City Hall. The application to be submitted after the hearing will request funding for up to $1 million dollars.

No specific redevelopment plans for the property have been revealed. Mayor Scott Steve added if the grant is awarded, it will help remove a blighted building within the City of Cortland and help with future development in a centralized location of the city.
