Public Comment Hearing Date Announced Regarding 160MW Solar Farm in Groton & Lansing

The New York State Department of Public Service says the Office of Renewable Energy Siting and Electric Transmission (ORES) will be hosting an in-person public comment hearing next Thursday, February 20th at the Groton High School Gymnasium in the Village of Groton. The meeting is to allow public comments regarding the application and draft permit for the Yellow Barn Solar project. The proposed project is a 160MW solar farm that would be located in both the Town of Groton and Lansing.

The public comment meeting will begin at 6pm.

ORES says the applicant of the project had filed an application with the agency back on November 3rd, 2023 with a notice of completion of said application on October 15th, 2024; draft permit conditions were published by ORES on December 16th. You can find those documents HERE.

The public comment in-person meeting is open for any person(s), organizations, corporations, or government agencies who may be affected by the Yellow Barn Solar project, to attend and comment on the application and draft permit conditions. Those who may have lengthy comments are asked to provide a summarized version and submit in writing. To ensure that all interested persons have an opportunity to speak, the Administrative Law Judges (ALJs) may limit the time available for oral comments to three (3) minutes per person.

Anyone who cannot attend the public comment meeting on February 20th may submit written comments by emailing ORES at ores.hearings@dps.ny.gov or mailed to: Office of Renewable Energy Siting and Electric Transmission, Empire State Plaza, P-1 South, J Dock, Albany, NY 12242. Comments are due no later than February 21st and will be accepted if they are postmarked by the 21st.

More information and renderings of the project with locations may be obtained HERE.
