The first round of the Restore New York Communities Initiative was announced yesterday, December 20th by Governor Hochul. The total funding adds up to $102 million dollars to 64 projects throughout the state. Among those 64 projects is the project at the Gillette Factory near Homer Ave. in the City of Cortland.

The project, titled Lofts at Gillette Factory, will receive $1.5 million dollars to help renovate the building, which has been abandoned for a number of years. The building has been noted as being in a distressed neighborhood that is in need of apartments.
Overall, the project will have a 27,000 square feet of residential space consisting of 22 units, and two commercial office spaces in it.
Two houses nearby will also be torn down during the project to create an L-shaped garage with 7 or 8 garage spaces for residents. Construction is expected to begin in early 2023.
