A widespread power outage this morning in southeastern Cortland and adjacent counties prompted a school closing.
The Superintendent at Cincinnatus schools sent students home after lunch. They were bused home, beginning at 11:30 am today (Wednesday).
Steven Hubbard assures parents that no child will be left at home alone. If there is no one to care for younger children, they will return to school until the regular dismissal.
Hubbard says the school did use its generator.
NYSEG spokesperson Bob Pass told WXHC News that an equipment malfunction in the company’s substation in Willet is to blame. It failed at 9:44 am. Crews restored power to about half of the 2,400 customers affected. The rest were back on the grid at midday. Another 1,600 customers were without power in Chenango County.
National Grid reported 18 customers without electricity in Solon at midday.
