Pot, Harassment and Trespassing Among Cortland Police Arrests

Local News

Cortland City Police arrested Carlos Planas, 33, of Cortland, on Friday afternoon at about 5 pm for Unlawful Possession of Marijuana and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance.

The arrest came after police responded to Charles Street for people arguing in the street.

During the investigation police discovered that Planas had marijuana and cocaine in his possession.

Planas was released to appear in City Court on April 13.

A man that Cortland Police say went into Cortland High School without signing in as a visitor was arrested Friday morning.

Richard Cordery, 27, of Cortland, was charged with felony Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, and Criminal Trespass.

According to a report provided by Lt. Richard Troyer, Cordery went into Cortland High School, as a visitor to speak with a friend, however he failed to notify the school he was in the building as all visitors are required to do.

Police point out that the victim from his past sexual offense had attended the school (although the victim no longer attends the school and wasn’t at the school when Cordery was there).

Cordery is also accused of failing to register his internet account with New York State.

Lt. Troyer says he was sent to jail on $500 cash bail or $1,000 bond to appear in City Court on April 25.

George Thompson, who is 36, and from Kirkville, was arrested on a warrant on Friday morning at 9 am by Cortland Police.

Thompson faces charges of felony Criminal Contempt and a Harassment violation, according to the police report.

Thompson is accused of getting into a fight with a 46-year old woman at a home on Church Street, a week earlier.

The woman had a valid order of protection against Thompson, who is accused by police of punching her several times.

He was sent to jail on no bail to appear in City Court on April 20.
