A possible assault is under investigation that reportedly took place Sunday afternoon (August 30) during a protest in front of the Ithaca Police Department.
Witnesses saw a person driving on East Clinton Street when a group of protesters suddenly rushed and surrounded the vehicle, preventing it from leaving while they caused physical damage to it.
A bystander who tried to help the motorist was also shoved to the ground and sustained minor injuries.
The involved motorist was never located.
Police say the investigation continues and they’re now looking to identify and speak with the driver, along with anyone else who may have witnessed the incident.
