Poor Weather Conditions Cause Snow Plow To Crash Into Ditch

The poor weather conditions late Sunday morning in Cortland County caused a county snow plow truck to crash into a ditch near the intersection of Route 221 and Dean’s Pond Road.

Both Marathon Fire Department and Marathon Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps (MAVAC) responded to the scene. As crews were responding, they learned the operator of the snow plow was uninjured and needed assistance in getting out of the cab to the truck.

The operator was evaluated by members of MAVAC as a precautionary measure. Weather conditions at the time of the crash were whiteout conditions with strong winds which caused the driver to veer off the road and into the ditch, according to a release by MAVAC.

Assisting Marathon Fire and MAVAC was the New York State Police and Ron’s Towing.
