Police In Cortland Report A Variety Of Arrests

Cortland Police report a number of arrests from the past weekend. The information is provided by Lt. Rick Troyer.

Michael Scott of Syracuse was arrested Friday afternoon at 2:30 pm and charged with felony Burglary, Menacing, and felony Weapons Possession. Travis Martin, 28, of Nedrow, was also arrested. Martin was charged with felony Burglary. Police say the two were caught after forcing their way into a home at 182 Main Street and threatening a 30-year old woman with a knife. Both were sent to jail awaiting bail.

A man from Cortland was arrested shortly after being spotted by a police officer on Franklin Street. Robert Preston, 49, was picked up on a warrant Saturday afternoon around 4:30 pm. He’s charged with felony Burglary and Grand Larceny after a June burglary at a home on Westfield Park. Jewelry valued at $10,000 was stolen. Preston was due in Cortland City Court on Monday.

Nicholas Baldassare, 25, of Cortland is accused of entering a home on Cortland’s East Side Friday and grabbing a 24-year old woman by the rib cage. The woman had a valid order of protection against, according to Cortland Police. He was arrested at 7:45 pm Friday on nearby railroad tracks and charged with felony Criminal Contempt, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument, Criminal Trespass and Harassment. He was jailed awaiting bail and a court date on Monday.

Resisting arrest and Disorderly Conduct are the charges against Alex Mitchell, 23, of McGraw. Cortland Police arrested him shortly after 2 am Saturday. Officers say Mitchell refused to leave the area of 110 Main Street where a disturbance had taken place and then resisted arrest by fighting with the officers. He was released to appear next month in Cortland City Court.

A man from Nyack is accused of smoking marijuana on Main Street, running from police, and damaging an officer’s pants. Liam Cronin, who is 21, was arrested at about 1:30 am Saturday for Resisting arrest, Criminal Mischief, and Possession of Marijuana. Police say the damage to the pants came during Cronin’s arrest. He was jailed awaiting bail and a court date next month.

A man accused of stealing an iPhone from a Main Street business was arrested Sunday afternoon at 3 pm. Joshua Powell, 25, of Cortland was charged with Petit Larceny and released until a court appearance next week.

What do you get when you are accused of kicking a police car? For 22-year old Andrew Cohen of Nyack, you get arrested and sent to jail. Cohen is accused of refusing to leave the area near 132 Main Street about 1:45 Saturday morning after an arrest there. The kick drew a charge of Obstruction of Governmental Administration. Cohen was offered bail and ordered back to Cortland City Court on October 13.

Another Cortland Police officer was attacked on Main Street at about 3:30 am Sunday. According to police information, Jason Malone, 32, of Cortland, was arrested on charges of Obstruction of Governmental  Administration and Harassment. Malone is accused of slamming a door on the officer’s leg. The officer wasn’t hurt. Malone is to appear next month in Cortland City Court.
