A Cortland man was arrested early Sunday (December 8) morning after police say he entrapped and sexually assaulted a woman in his home before forcing her out into the cold wearing minimal clothing.
City police responded to a call around 1 a.m. to find a 36-year-old woman standing outside a residence on Central Avenue wearing only a bra underneath her jacket.
Upon speaking with her, officers say the woman claimed 38-year-old Darrin Bailey had turned on her while she was there visiting his residence, holding her locked in his bedroom and forcing her to perform a sex act on him before throwing her out into the cold.
Police then questioned Bailey, who initially denied having any involvement with the woman. A search warrant was then executed and the woman’s shirt was found in Bailey’s bedroom.
He was charged with 1st degree Criminal Sex Act (felony), as well as 4th degree Criminal Mischief, Unlawful Imprisonment, and Criminal Tampering, each of which are misdemeanors.
Bailey was remanded to the Cortland County Jail without bail and was set to appear in court this morning (December 11).
