Preparations are underway for the upcoming Cortaca weekend. Police have been out checking the bars for students with fake id’s.
Thirteen people were ticketed last Friday for using fake drivers’ licenses at local bars. Eleven of those charged are college students.
Working with the state DMV and the State Liquor Authority, Cortland Police have become more aggressive over the last couple years to crack down on underage drinking.
Police have also conducted undercover stings at off-campus house party’s to hold those who serve alcohol to underage guests accountable.
Local police agencies have been discussing their plans for the Cortaca weekend. The game is November 14th and will be in Ithaca this year. The 2013 edition was in Ithaca, but Cortland was the site of raucous out of control parties.
Police have been going door to door talking with students about safety, local laws, and the consequences for breaking them.
